About Trafalgar Square Books
Trafalgar Square Books (TSB) is the leading publisher of equestrian books, ebooks, audiobooks, and videos—created “for the good of the horse.” Founded in 1983 by Caroline and Ted Robbins on a working farm in North Pomfret, Vermont, TSB built its reputation by publishing trusted voices from across the horse world—riders, trainers, veterinarians, behaviorists, therapists, and farriers—along with select titles on dogs and the New England outdoors. Its first breakout hit, Centered Riding by Sally Swift (1985), remains one of the best-selling horse books of all time.
Today, Trafalgar Square Books is an imprint of The Stable Book Group, continuing its independent editorial spirit while gaining the shared scale and support of the wider Stable family.
From how-to training guides to deep dives on horsemanship and horse welfare, TSB titles help riders learn, progress, and care better—on the page, in the arena, and on the trail.
Submissions
Trafalgar Square Books accepts unsolicited book proposals and manuscripts. If you would like to submit your idea for consideration, we ask that you supply the following:
- A letter of introduction explaining your experience and qualifications for writing on your subject and why you feel your book will be a valuable contribution to equestrian literature.
- An indication of who you see as an audience for your book.
- An outline or a detailed table of contents.
- One to three sample chapters so we can assess your style and writing ability. (If you have a complete manuscript and would like to send it, that is fine, too.)
- A general idea of how the book will be illustrated—a rough estimate of the number of photos, line drawings, charts, etc. Please include sample art if available.
- A general idea of how you plan to promote yourself and your book once it is published—teaching, speaking, or clinic schedules; strength or presence in the online and social media spheres; trade show and exposition appearances; and anything else that gives us an idea of how we will be able to market your book to the public.
- A note indicating whether the material is under multiple submission. (Please note: It is a general publishing courtesy to only submit a book proposal to one publisher at a time.)
- Send materials to us at trafalgar@stablebookgroup.com
Please include your email contact and we will confirm receipt of your submission. Allow six to eight weeks following receipt confirmation to receive a reply regarding our interest. We do our best to reply to proposals quickly, but please be aware we receive hundreds of submissions each year and the process can take time.

Our Story
Trafalgar Square Books, now an imprint of the Stable Book Group, is the leading publisher of fine equestrian books, eBooks, audiobooks, and videos, as well as selected other titles about dogs and the natural world of New England. The company was founded in 1983 by Caroline and Ted Robbins on a farm in North Pomfret, Vermont, a rural community nestled in the hills surrounding the better-known town of Woodstock. The publishing program began with the release of the revolutionary book Centered Riding by Sally Swift in 1985.
2025 marked the 40th anniversary of the publication of Centered Riding, the now classic text by Sally Swift, which was the first "horse book" published by TSB. Centered Riding, the book, has sold almost a million copies worldwide and has been published in 16 languages. For many horse people—across riding disciplines and state lines and national borders—it changed the way practical riding instruction could be disseminated, marking the first contemporary “how-to-ride” text that moved away from the formal riding books of the classical masters. The book went on to inspire an international organization devoted to riding instruction that continues to flourish today.
Since Centered Riding, many of TSB’s books have become bestsellers across riding disciplines and in numerous languages throughout the world, including:
- Getting in Touch (1995), which helped launch the phenomenal career of renowned animal behaviorist and horse trainer Linda Tellington-Jones.
- That Winning Feeling! (1997) by Jane Savoie, which was one of the first sport psychology books specifically for riders.
- Yoga for Equestrians (2000) by Linda Benedik and Veronica Wirth, which introduced the idea of cross-training the rider for better riding performance.
- Bombproof Your Horse (2004), a book that enabled mounted police officer Sgt. Rick Pelicano to show everyday riders how to make their horses safe in any situation.
- Tug of War: Classical versus “Modern” Dressage (2007) by Dr. Gerd Heuschmann, which made public the controversial “Rollkur” practices that had dressage circles in turmoil all over the globe.
- Beyond Horse Massage (2011) by Jim Masterson, which revolutionized DIY equine bodywork and launched The Masterson Method worldwide.
- Horse Speak (2016) by Sharon Wilsie and Gretchen Vogel, the first equine-human translation guide devoted to decoding horse body language and showing humans how to understand and respond to it.
- Horse Brain, Human Brain (2020) by brain scientist and horsewoman Janet Jones, PhD, which explains in plain language the differences and similarities between equine and human ways of negotiating the world, and how with that understanding we can be better partners and caregivers to our horses.
For many years, Trafalgar Square Books also helped produce and distribute hundreds of educational videos for equestrians. TSB worked side-by-side with Cedar Creek Productions and Director Cindy Meehl to produce the international smash 7 Clinics with Buck Brannaman (2012)—over 10 hours of instructional footage obtained during the making of the award-winning documentary film Buck. 7 Clinics with Buck Brannaman, along with select other video programs, are now available to stream via the TSB online bookstore.
Since the publication of Centered Riding by Sally Swift, now 40 years ago, Trafalgar Square Books has proudly published and distributed over 600 equestrian books. TSB remains committed to upholding the highest quality editorial and production standards, and certifies that the content of its books are generated by human experts on the subject (not AI), and the content is edited, fact-checked, and proofread by human publishing specialists with a lifetime of equestrian knowledge. TSB books publishes books with the good of the horse in mind.
